Position Overview Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a motivated candidate to fill a Transportation Engineer position in the Peoria, Illinois office.

Position Profile This person is expected to be in a key design role on roadway and intersection projects. Position requires the ability to serve as responsible design engineer for project components. Projects will generally involve roadway and highway design for local governments, state departments of transportation, and private clients.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: 1. Ability to design roads and intersections for both urban and rural conditions 2. Designing for complete streets, pedestrians, turning movements, bicycle lanes/paths, and driveways 3. Developing construction documents 4. Preparing quantity calculations, cost estimates, and special provisions 5. Utility coordination and permit development 6. Pavement design 7. Roadside safety design 8. Maintenance of traffic design 9. Technical writing 10. Other duties as assigned
Demonstrated experience with Microstation and PowerGeopak (OpenRoads SS4) software, required
Autoturn experience desired
Familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D desirable.
Must be proficient in 3D modeling and cross section development
Application of engineering knowledge toward solving assigned tasks and engineering activities
Strong oral communication and technical writing skills.
Ability to mentor junior technical staff
Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external clients
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
Minimum of 5 years of experience on roadway design and related projects
Professional Engineer license (IL) or be able to reciprocate a license from another state within 6 months
Experience with 3D corridor and site modeling
Experience with evaluating and designing projects based on current ADA and PROWAG requirements
Previous construction experience is a plus
Working at Hanson:
Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices
Candidate must be willing to accept occasional out-of-town travel assignments
Must be willing to work overtime to meet project demands when needed
