Riverside HealthCare OPS/PACU Unit Secretary/Transporter in Kankakee, Illinois


The OPS/PACU Aide/Transporter facilitates patient transportation in a safe, efficient and organized manner. Orders necessary supplies for the department and helps to restock these supplies.


PART III: POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)Ability to access policy and procedures on Rivernet.Ability to use all computer programs in department.Answer patient, family, staff or physician inquiries or refer to appropriate resource.Answers telephone using proper etiquette and conveys messages accurately and properly.Assist with cleaning and disinfection of monitor cables after each patient discharge.Assists staff with patient lifting and positioning.Assumes responsibility for acquisition and proper storage of cleaning supplies.Consistently demonstrates a commitment to patient satisfaction and actively seeks ways to enhance the patient and family experience in OPS/PACU.Fill blanket warmers and empty wastebaskets/linen hampers throughout the day.Observes and reports to the unit charge person conditions which may be of value and assistance in the total care of the patient.Order supplies as directed after verifying PAR/levels.Place PACU beds in the appropriate OPS bays as necessary and throughout the day to facilitate the flow of cases.Restock all necessary items in appropriate locations; clean, damp dust and perform outdates as directed.Return transport carts to the area after use, clean with prescribed disinfectant and replace with clean sheet, pillow and blanket.Transports patients from OPS and PACU to the receiving unit, department, or facility entrances.Works in other departments within perioperative services as necessary to provide appropriate levels of service.

Mails out thank you card to patients after surgery.

Scans patient medical records into EPIC.

Performs Accucheck glucose readings as directed by the nursing staff.

Assists in emptying of surgical drains and Foley catheters under the direction of the nursing staff.


Experience/Education Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Completion of RMC mandatory inservices, upon hire and yearly.

  • Completion of 2-4 weeks minimum basic PACU/OPS orientation within the PACU/OPS department and continued with preceptors.

License or Certification Requirements:

  • None

  • Current CPR certification preferred.
