Riverside HealthCare Mental Health Counselor in Kankakee, Illinois
The Mental Health Counselor (MHC) is the global caretaker of the milieu, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients. The MHC assesses the patient's behaviors upon admission and throughout the patients stay, documenting those observations in the EMR. On a daily basis, the MHC conducts assigned groups, intervenes in the milieu as needed, and evaluates the patient's response to treatment. In addition, this staff member participates in the orientation/precepting of new staff, students, and interns as directed. The MHC has the flexibility to perform in a variety of settings with clients of all ages from pediatric to geriatric.
PART III: POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Able to administer SASSI form and generate a score for screening purposes.
Assists in maintaining standards of safety and cleanliness within the therapeutic milieu.
Conducts groups as assigned; supports appropriate patient participation in programming.
Demonstrates ability to correctly complete all admission paperwork required for various age groups on MHU.
Demonstrates expertise in developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships within the guidelines of the patients' treatment plan.
Documents observations, interventions, and progress toward planned outcomes according to charting standards.
Implements planned treatment interventions and documents patients' response.
Monitors assigned patients for safety and assists with their personal care needs.
Monitors environment for any safety issues and reports or corrects those issues as soon as possible.
Participates in maintaining a positive work environment through adherence to professional standards of behavior policy.
Possesses the knowledge and skill required to evaluate the patients' mental status upon admission and throughout their hospital stay; able to correctly document that in the patients' EMR.
Promotes patient satisfaction through positive interactions with patients and families, and through therapeutic approaches within the patients' treatment plan.
Provides input into and assists in developing and updating patients' treatment plans.
Reports patient observations to RN every shift.
Utilizes approved behavioral management techniques when appropriate.
Experience/Education Requirements:As of March, 2016 all new hires must hold a Bachelor's degree in Behavioral ScienceTwo years of experience as a Mental Health technician preferred
