Robert Half Finance & Accounting Controller in DEKALB, Illinois

The roles and responsibilities for this position are as follows:

  • Serve as a key member of the Executive Management Team

  • Direct the monthly accounting close including full consolidations

  • Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing

  • Lead payroll, accounts receivable and payable functions

  • Review the company's accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances

  • Prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly, annual, and key management reports, including budget versus actual analyses

  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual budgets

  • Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records

  • Help in development of reports for management or regulatory bodies

  • Assist in the successful and timely completion of external audits, implementing any agreed upon recommendations

  • Maintain and update policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Lead special projects as assigned

  • Support the General Manager and Board with weekly reporting/flash reporting and other analysis in order to migrate to managing the business in real time

  • Collaborate with other leaders on various budgeting, forecasting, business analysis, profitability analysis, pricing and other financial analysis projects.

  • Remain current on technical accounting and tax matters.

  • Calculate sales commissions and communicate results to the sales team

  • Manage key aspects of the banking/lender relationship

  • Manage the cash position and entity liquidity

  • Oversee all aspects of risk management

  • Lead the integration of finance and accounting for future acquisitions Required Experience and Skills:

  • Proven experience as an accounting manager, assistant controller or other similar position

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance with 8 + years of relevant accounting experience, with career progression in an accounting function

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulations

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (financial closure, reporting etc.) Experience with cloud-based accounting software (e.g. Intacct) and advanced skills in MS Excel. Well-organized with ability to prioritize

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability

  • Experience working in a business in a levered financial position

  • CPA required

  • Experience working with external parties (such as vendors, lenders, and external audit and tax professionals)

  • Outstanding communication skills, including oral written and presentation skills

  • Ability to take initiative and work effectively with teams

  • Highest level of honesty and integrity
