Job Summary

Responsible for leading the maintenance of accounts and of the performance of other accounting related activities. Leads the preparation of necessary information for financial and/or management reporting. Leads the analysis of financial and management reports to identifying trends and variances and performs the more complex analysis. May perform advanced level accounting tasks. May coach and mentor more junior accountants.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages accounts for reconciliation and resolution of open items. Monitors accounts.

  • Research and correction of escalated issues and exceptions. Leads the analysis of accounts, records, and reports and handles the more complex accounting. Leads the investigation and resolution of any accounting issues within area of responsibility.

  • Leads the reconciliations for area supported and ensures analysis of resulting variances and handles the more complex issues. Proposes and prepares adjusting entries as necessary resulting from reconciliations. Communicates findings to management.

  • Prepares the more complex reports in support of internal and external audits.

  • Audits compliance with contracts, negotiated terms, and applicable regulations. Responsible for external communications to resolve issues and for communications to management for non-compliant items.

  • Reviews proposed process improvements for implementation. Provides oversight to the exploration of the modification and implementation of changes in systems and procedures.

  • Leads external customer relationships to obtain required information or payments and to provide required information and reports.

  • Primary Contact for escalated internal and external customers to obtain required information, documents, or payments.

  • Trains and audits work of others for accuracy and timeliness. Recommends process and procedural improvements. May coach and mentor more junior accountants.

External Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 4 years of experience in an analytical role in accounting, finance, business management or auditing or High School Diploma/GED and at least 7 years of experience in an analytical role in accounting, finance, business management or auditing.

  • At least 3 years of experience with applicable regulations.

  • Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers, including meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Experience with analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.

  • Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using AVERAGE function, merging and centering cells, printing centered page and/or creating a pivot table).

  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).

  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).

  • Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives).

  • Willing to travel up to 10 % of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Accountancy or MBA

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.

  • CPA designation.

  • Experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other team members.

  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Access (for example: designing and creating simple queries, modifying data types, adding dates, working with required fields and/or creating labels).
