Kelly Services Claims Examiner in Chicago, Illinois

Our client, a top 10 US Property & Casualty Insurer, is currently seeking a Claims Examiner for a 4+ month temporary position with the possibility of temp to perm. The position is located in Chicago, IL.

The hours for this position are as follows

  • Monday to Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Pay Rate= $25-28 /hour

The main function of a Claims Examiner is to investigate, analyze, and determine the extent of insurance company's liability to determine how much compensation is needed.

Your responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Analyze information gathered by investigation and report findings and recommendations.

  • Collect evidence to support contested claims in court.

  • Examine claims form and other records to determine insurance coverage.

  • Examine titles to property to determine validity and act as company agent in transactions with property owners.

  • Interview or correspond with agents and claimants to correct errors or omissions and to investigate questionable claims.

  • Interview or correspond with claimant and witnesses, consult police and hospital records, and inspect property damage to determine extent of liability.

  • Investigate and assess damage to property.

  • Negotiate claim settlements and recommend litigation when settlement cannot be negotiated.

  • Obtain credit information from banks and other credit services. Prepare report of findings of investigation. Refer questionable claims to investigator or claims adjuster for investigation or settlement.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field or a combination of Associates Degree/High School Diploma and equivalent experience (5-10 years preferred) as well as knowledge of the insurance industry (5+ years Lost Time or Complex Workers’ Compensation Experience is preferred) with excellent written and verbal communication. Individual must be able to complete thorough investigations, detailed reserve analyses and resolve litigated claims. Multi-state knowledge preferred. Licensing also preferred but not required. Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions is crucial. This position requires and understanding of basic accounting processes and procedures and strong Microsoft Office skills.
