Kelly Services Design Engineer in Itasca, Illinois

Kelly Engineering Resources has an amazing Contract-to-Hire position near Schaumburg, IL for a Design Engineer to design new products and make improvements to existing products. Evaluate products, parts or processes for cost efficiency and reliability. Work with other members of the engineering staff and operation staff to ensure proper implementation of designs. Work under minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities for Design Engineer:

Design and document new product components and improve current component designs. Ensure interoperability with other mating or affected parts. Participate in the design and development of new products. Design and setup validation testing for new components and products. Fabricate and direct the fabrication of prototypes for testing. Stay abreast of industry developments and technologies. Identify and investigate items which may be of value to the company. Provide engineering support in the form of direction, design, or drawings for the inside and outside sales staff, customers, and installers. Provide engineering support as required to the shop for production. Interact with and maintain good relationships with various vendors, suppliers, installers and customers. Maintain close communication with the Engineering Manager, Operations Manager and the President/CEO.

Job Qualifications for Design Engineer:

Self-motivated, detail-oriented and creative. Must be able to maintain effective working relationships internally and externally. Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, handle multiple projects, maintain a high degree of organization and customer service orientation. Ability to interact with management, sales personnel, vendors and customers. Ability to use tool room machinery (hand and power tools, etc.) and participate in hands-on fabrication. Ability to travel on short notice.

Job Education and Experience Requirements for Design Engineer:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field. 5-10 years of experience in design engineering or a related area. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a manufacturing environment. Strong working knowledge of material science, manufacturing techniques, and hardware. Experience with security roll shutters or rolling doors a plus.

Job Computer Skills Required for Design Engineer:

Proficient with applicable software such as Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Inventor, FEA tools, and MathCAD.
