Superior Ambulance Service Dispatch Shift Supervisor in Elmhurst, Illinois

Job Summary:

The shift supervisor is responsible for watching the dispatch board, overseeing and maintaining the status’ of assigned fleet, decision making to utilize recourses to max capabilities, giving out appropriate ETA’s when necessary, triaging ambulance response, handle complaint callers, sending incidents, approve home address and long distance transports, and act as support staff to EMT’s, Paramedics and to customer service representatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be extremely knowledgeable in all service areas

  • Give appropriate ETA’s while accounting for type and level of response, traffic patterns, and weather conditions

  • Prioritize request for ambulance service

  • Communicate issues to marketing, management, and customers as necessary

  • Assist EMT’s and Paramedics with directions as necessary

  • Oversee function of dispatchers and assistance

  • Delegate additional responsibilities to dispatchers and assistants as necessary

  • Assist in receiving and entering in request for ambulance or medicar service as necessary

  • Maintain status records and give appropriate ETA’s for Critical Care Transport as necessary

  • Map reading skills

  • Problem solving skills

  • Multi-tasking ability

  • Effective communication skills

  • Previous EMS knowledge required

  • EMD license


  • High School diploma or GED

  • EMT level or greater or minimum 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Must have proficiency in the English language.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in order to receive and take information.

  • A combination of education and experience may substitute if there is demonstrated knowledge, ability and skills to perform the work.

  • Adapt to frequently changing policies.

  • Ability to learn policies and procedures for facilities and recognizing when to apply them.

  • Medical background a plus.
